Boston is one of America's most vibrant cities, where old-world atmosphere blends with present day excitement and vitality. Boston is a world center for education, medicine, high technology and finance. Boston's role in shaping American History is unique among all other cities, from the Paul Revere House to the Battle of Bunker Hill; the Old State House to the Old North Church; just follow the Freedom Trail and find history around every corner.
The Boston area is known for its many colleges and universities. Found in 1636, Harvard University, located in nearby Cambridge, is the oldest and one of the most esteemed institutions of higher learning in the United States. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the world's leading research universities, is also located in Cambridge.
Our driving tour points you to places you can explore in your free time: like the enchanting Boston Common, America's oldest public park; and Beacon Hill, the oldest and most exclusive neighborhood in the US. You will see the Bull and Finch Pub, inspiration for the TV sitcom "Cheers;" Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team; you'll have the chance to photograph the Boston Tea Party Ship and visit the USS Constitution, better known as "Old Ironsides", the oldest commissioned warship in the world. You'll have time to roam the Campus of Harvard and its unusual museums.
If shopping is your thing, Boston offers shopping like no other city can. Boylston Street, in the heart of the Back Bay, is home to more than 100 stores, including Talbot's, Eddie Bauer, City Sports, Hermes, Escada, Sax Fifth Avenue, Ann Taylor, the Body Shop and more. Parallel to Boylston is Newbury Street with its upscale boutiques and hip clothing stores; sort of a combination of New York's Soho District and Fifth Avenue. Newbury Street offers big name designers like Versace and Armani, in a quaint setting of sidewalk cafés perfect for people watching. Harvard Square comprises just a few blocks, but holds more than 150 stores selling clothes, books and records, furnishings, and a range of specialty items.
The Highlight of this Boston Adventure is the optional Whale Watch Cruise to the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary; the most famous whale watching destination on the Eastern Coast of North America. Renowned for its heavy concentration of Humpback, Finback and Minke Whales, Stellwagen Bank is the perfect location to see and learn about the whales, as they feast & frolic in their natural habitat.
Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary, is a rich feeding ground for whales, dolphins, sea birds and more. It’s home to several kinds of large whales, including humpbacks, finbacks, minkes, pilot whales and the critically endangered right whales.
Abundant in living resources, this feeding area of the great whales continues to make Stellwagen Bank one of the most outstanding areas in the world for quality whale watching. The World Wildlife Fund named Massachusetts one of the top 10 whale-watching spots in the world, saying, “The "wow factor" here is huge, as minke, finback, and humpback whales regularly glide through the waters, and glimpses of them spouting and breaching are practically guaranteed.”
Each whale watch cruise is guided and narrated by a naturalist from the "New England Aquarium", who will provide commentary for you while you cruise in total comfort on a modern, high speed catamaran, offering three outside decks for first-class viewing. Inside, is a climate-controlled cabin with tables and airline-style captain seating. There is also a galley to purchase light fare, snacks and beverages.
After your whale watch cruise, there is time for a visit to Harvard and MIT, before heading back to New York City. Anyone wishing to skip the optional Whale Watch Cruise, will have a chance to visit the USS Constitution, and will have more time to visit Harvard and MIT.
